5 Keys to a Successful Web Presence
Jeffrey Adams wrote a great article recently talking about the 5 keys to having a successful web presence. I found it interesting that in his 5 steps he left out what i believe to be the most important – SEO. That aside, I wanted to share with you his 5 keys as they are in fact all very important and go a long way to a truly successful web presence.
1. Start With A Simple Website
Most hosting companies have several packages to choose from ranging from small webhosting to accounts to huge developer accounts with very large storage and bandwidth. If you are a small company, or just looking to put up an introductory web presence, you can stay with a smaller package until you have to upgrade.
Start with a basic website, with a few pages or information so visitors can know more about your company, find out what services you have, and order from you.
2. Choose A Memorable Domain
The great things with a hosting company, like 1&1 Internet, is that your domain name is included in the overall package. You don’t need to use a long domain with someone else’s domain. You want a memorable name that people will easily recall for your products. For example, if you plan to run an online game site, your domain could be tigeronlinegames.com or something along that line.
3. Use Videos For Stickyness
A big buzz word about your web presence is “sticky”. This is basically talking about the means you use to keep people looking at your site. One great way to do this is by hosting videos on your website. A lot of hosting companies let you upload and embed these videos quite easily. Look through the options available before you purchase a package.
4. Be Yourself And Have A Voice
One of the biggest ways to build a strong web presence, no matter what business you are in, or the reason you have a website, is to just be yourself. Many companies try too hard to be something they aren’t. For instance 1&1 Internet, a web hosting company, is not a video game company. Trying to put forth a message that you can play games on their site wouldn’t get them far. Be who you are and have a strong voice in your industry. Let people hear what you have to say.
5. Build A Mailing List
Web presence is built on name recognition. That is only going to happen when you reach a large group of people on a consistent basis. A mailing list is a great way to do that. Have a way for people to subscribe to your weekly newsletter and keep them in touch with your company.
